Professional Development Conference


This is the combined annual professional development conference of the Illinois Committee on Black Concerns in Higher Education (ICBCHE) and the Illinois Latino Council on Higher Education (ILACHE).  Together these two statewide organizations will promote the New Majority Coalition action agenda.  The goals of the conference are:

  • to collaborate on professional development strategies that enhance faculty retention;
  • to establish a statewide communication and support network between African American and Latino faculty, administrators, and staff;
  • and to improve dialogue between African Americans and Latinos on issues that impact them jointly.

Theme: Diversity: The Assault on Traditionally Underrepresented Groups

When: Thursday, April 24, 2008, 8:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.

Where: UIC Forum, 725 West Roosevelt Road, Chicago, Illinois 60607

Target: African American and Latino faculty, staff, administrators, and students at two and four year colleges and universities in Illinois.

Goals: To combine the annual professional development conferences of the Illinois Latino Council on Higher Education (ILACHE) and the Illinois Committee on Black Concerns in Higher Education (ICBCHE); and to increase African American and Latino networking, mobilization, and advocacy on issues pertaining to the concerns of traditionally underrepresented groups in higher education in Illinois.

Objective: The objectives of the conference and
research forum are:

  • Enhancing African American and Latino faculty, administrator, and staff professional development; and

  • Increasing African American and Latino faculty undergraduate and graduate student research collaboration and opportunities.

Expected Outcomes: The expected outcomes of the conference include:

  • Implementation of the New Majority Coalition action agenda.
  • Increased collaboration on professional development strategies that enhance faculty retention.
  • A statewide communication and support network between African American and Latino faculty, administrators, and staff.
  • Increased dialogue between African Americans and Latinos on issues that impact them jointly.
  • Increased collaborative research between African American and Latino faculty and students.
